Tekzilla Daily Tip #40: Keyboard Shortcuts for Shortcuts!
If you're a power user you probably have desktop filled with dozens shortcuts to apps, documents or files. Wouldn't it be cool if you could just assign them a keyboard shortcut and skip the constant double clicking?
Well you can and its easy to do. Just follow along.
- Right-click a shortcut on the desktop or in the start menu, and then click Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, click in the Shortcut Key box.
- Press the key you want to use. Windows will automatically add the Ctrl+Alt prefix to most keys. For example if you choose the key "U" the combination will be Ctrl+Alt+U.
Now if you don't want to 3 finger salute your shortcuts take advantage of unused function key for example F7. Now you just need to press one key instead of 3. - Click OK.
Now instead of double clicking the mouse to a launch a shortcut just use your keyboard combo.
