Welcome to Tekzilla... hands on reviews of the latest tech, and how to make the most out of the gear you already own! Veronica Belmont and Patrick Norton are your hosts.
We've got a ton of great stuff on the show today!
Dying hard drive? Step one is to get your data off before it dies!
Then you can decide whether to salvage it with a tool like SpinRite, or replace it with a new drive.
Do yourself a favor: back up your data -before- your drive crashes!
Did the hardware fail? Then you've got a serious check to sign to a data recovery company, or a lot of work to do... one of the only folks talking about DIY recovery from HD hardware failure is Scott Moulton. It's not an easy thing to do even with his knowledge behind ya!
Heroes star Greg Grunberg joins us to talk about his iPhone app Yowza!! and his experience as an iPhone developer!
Free Software! This Week's Freebie download pick is FastStone Photo Resizer! Need to re-size, crop or trans-code all your photos, but don't want to spend any cash? Then step right up and try FastStone Photo Resizer. This spiffy utility re-sizes, crops, rotates, tweaks color depth, adds text, or watermarks almost any image in your photo library. Just pick a folder or select the images you want to process and click add, select your options, and finally an output folder and click convert. There's even a batch rename tool so you can re-label all those image files into something a bit more intelligible.
This week's "Website We Just Can't Get Enough of!" is RecipePuppy.com. Veronica gets all "domestic goddess" on your butts this week with Recipe Puppy, the perfect webpage when you have a fridge full of random ingredients, and no idea what to make for dinner!
Nokia's got a new phone, the Surge, on AT&T, and they're actually offering subsidies, which makes it price-competitive in the US. Can it take on the iPhone, Sidekick or Blackberry? Watch Veronica's review!
When does your processor start taking damage? When Veronica rolls 20s, of course! Just kidding Nate... we've got the word on why you don't need to worry as much about CPU temps these days, along with the temperatures you should still watch out for.
Green drives in a RAID? What about Black or Blue drives? Mike wants to know if green drives will wreck his RAID, and if he should be thinking Enterprise class RE drives... obviously he's thinking about Western Digital drives here... Seagate's still an option, too!
