There are a tremendous number of useful libraries that ship with the .NET platform that Ruby developers can use in their applications. RubyCLR is a bridge between the standard C-based implementation of the Ruby interpreter, and code that executes in the .NET Common Language Runtime. We will look at the design of RubyCLR to better understand how to implement a high-performance and high-fidelity interop layer between dynamic languages and statically typed libraries.</p> <p>John Lam is a Program Manager on the Common Language Runtime team at Microsoft. He's the creator of RubyCLR, a high-performance bridge between Ruby and the .NET Common Language Runtime. In this talk, I give an introduction to Scala and demonstrate how it helps solving some hard problems in the construction of component systems.<br /> <br /> Martin Odersky is a professor at EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland. His research interests focus on programming languages, more specifically languages for object-oriented and functional programming. His research thesis is that the two paradigms are just two sides of the same coin and should be unified as much as possible. To prove this he has experimented with a number of language designs, from Pizza to GJ to Functional Nets. He has also influenced the development of Java as a co-designer of Java generics and as the original author of the current javac reference compiler.
