MacFUSE Tech Demos from Amit Singh's Macworld 2007 Talk

In this a video, Amit Singh (mac developer in Google) demonstrates MacFUSE - MacOS X port of FUSE technology, that allows developers to quickly implement their own filesystems in user-space. The most exciting plugins for most Mac users are the sshfs and ntfs. Other exciting possibilities of MacFUSE are:

ProcFS (process filesystem, which lets you get information about processes just by navigating a file hierarchy),
rssfs (for browsing RSS feeds),
SpotlightFS (instantly perform Spotlight queries simply by inputing your query as a directory),
DocsFS (for browsing your Google documents and speadsheets),
and even PicasaFS (for browsing and manipulating your Picaca Web albums).

Ajax testing with Selenium using waitForCondition

An often-asked question on the selenium-users mailing list is how to test Ajax-specific functionality with Selenium. The problem with Ajax testing is that the HTML page under test is modified asynchronously, so a plain Selenium assert or verify command might very well fail because the element being tested has not been created yet by the Ajax call. A quick-and-dirty solution is to put a pause command before the assert, but this is error-prone, since the pause might be not sufficient on a slow machine, while being unnecessarily slow on a faster one.

A better solution is to use Dan Fabulich's waitForCondition extension. This tiny screencast is a short demo for interesting article about using waitForCondition extension for Selenium to test AJAX applications. So, please read this article first and then - watch short demonstration.

ZiYa is a rails plugin that you can use to add charts to your Rails application.

ZiYa allows you to easily display graphs in your rails application by leveraging SWF Charts. This plugin bundles version 4.5 of the flash library. Incorporating flash graphs in your app relieves the server by allowing for delegating graph rendering to the client side. Using this plugin, you will be able to easily create great looking charts for your application. You will also be able to use the charts has a navigation scheme by embedding various link in the chart components thus bring to the table an ideal scheme for reporting and dashboard like applications.
