Have you ever met someone who is simply amazing? Well I have and that someone is Markus Frind. A few years ago he was just another victim of the .com bust in Vancouver BC. An ASP developer he decided he needed to learn ASP.NET so he created a dating site called PlentyOfFish.com. Online dating is a very big business with large companies and multi-million dollar budgets but Markus and his one man operation took them on and today he is a force to be reckoned with.

Binding Data to ASP.NET 2.0 Server Controls

A quick video by Dan Wahlin demonstrating how the SqlDataSource can be used quickly and easily and how controls can be embedded using templates.

From the author: Keep in mind that I'm not a big fan of using the SqlDataSource in "enterprise" applications but I do find myself using it quite a bit for admin pages where I need to update look-up tables or perform fairly straightforward operations with a minimal amount of code. For N-Tier/N-Layer applications I prefer to use the ObjectDataSource control where appropriate. I'll put together another video that demonstrates how the ObjectDataSource control can be used with custom code or TableAdapters. This lesson demonstrates how to set up Full-Text search paying particular attention to the nuances of setting it up within SQL Server Express. Then we move to creating full-text indexes, configuring the index population settings, and performing queries that demonstrate the power of the CONTAINS predicate and its many, many variations.
