Predefined SVG components from Mobility Pack enable Jerry to visually define the application flow using several mouse clicks with no java coding at all. It is possible thanks to a naming convention applied to certain SVG elements (in this case elements representing the menu items). NetBeans Mobility Pack understands this convention and is able automatically retrieve information about menu structure from SVG file. Creation of the appealing application consisting of splash screen and menu populated with several items is a matter of few minutes. There are two main points I like:

Integral support for Security, Reliability and Transactions on an endpoint. This means there is no need to download any additional plug-in.

A new Web Services Designer allows to design the Web service visually. This lowers the entry barrier for first-time users.

There are other minor enhancements as well which makes the overall experience much more pleasant. This screencast shows how a Secure and Reliable Web service can be easily developed using NetBeans 6 and deployed on Metro/GlassFish.A cutting edge build of NetBeans 6 can be downloaded from here or a more stable build (beta 1 as of today) from here. GlassFish V2 Final is bundled with both NetBeans beta1 and daily build. This screencast was provided by Arun Gupta.
Read more about this video…

Want more on these topics?
Browse the archive of posts filed under Development, Broadcasting, Java, Screencasts
